The Amsterdamer was started in 2019 by a small group of writers and photographers based in the Netherlands. We were frustrated by travel content that was either too generic or too promotional — so we decided to write the guides we actually wished existed.
We are fully independent. We are not affiliated with the City of Amsterdam, any tourist board, any attraction, or any ticketing company. When our guides include links to third-party services, we say so clearly and explain the relationship. Our editorial decisions are never influenced by commercial arrangements.
Our team includes full-time Amsterdam residents, frequent visitors, art historians, and food writers. Everything we publish is based on direct experience and honest research.
